ياايها الذين امنوا كتب عليكم الصيام كما كتب على الذين من قبلكم لعلكم تتقون
O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those who came before you that you may keep your duty to your Lord (having taqwa) (QS 2:183)

I was aware that Ramadhan starts from October 5th in Helsinki area based on the prayer times schedule issued by Rabita Mosque and Al Iman Mosque. This morning, I visited Al Iman's website and found out that Ramadhan starts from October 4th (today!). أسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ So I missed one day already since I officially haven't made the intention yet :(

Whoever does not determine to fast before fajr will have no fast (Hadith Rwh: Hafsa)

Intention (niyyah) is important as it is the second pillar of fasting. The first pillar is to abstain from everything that breaks the fast. These two essential elements of fasting must be fulfilled before our fast can be valid and acceptable.

Hoping that I will be forgiven for this mistake that should never ever happen again (note to self: must check the local mosque at least one day before Ramadhan starts next year!), now lets recite the intention in our heart:
نَوَيتُ صَومَ غَدٍ عَنْ اَدَا ﺀِ فَرْضِ شَهْرِرَمَضَانَ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى
I will fast in days of Ramadhan this year because of Allah taala
