Curling time

Yesterday we went playing Curling. This is my first time (and probably to most of the team members also) playing this. I knew about this game when I was in the university reading Kariage Kun comic book. Then I saw the game for "real" on TV here in Finland.

Running N800 software in Nokia 770

Still in N800 euphoria mode... :-D

Apparently it is possible to run the N800 software in Nokia 770 device. All you need is access to N800 rootfs and the flasher utility.

In your PC, do:

$ sudo flasher -r your.N800.rootfs.file -f --enable-rd-mode \
--set-rd-flags=no-lifeguard-reset

Btw, don't ask me how to get the rootfs without having N800, as I don't know :-D

It is necessary to set the no-lifeguard-reset as during booting, there so many things fail to initialize because of incompatible kernel and devices. Otherwise your device will lock in a boot loop.

Recording video with N800

N800 doesn't come with a video recorder program. So I tried to figure out how to record video with it. As the multimedia architecture has the gstreamer as it's building blocks, so I thought it's quite easy to accomplish this, although I only have a few knowledge about gstreamer. The things you need are gstreamer0.10-tools package (you can compile it yourself) and the osso-xterm terminal. So you're supposed to type the command line described below in the terminal. This is the basic diagram of doing the recording. We need to split the video stream from camera, one for displaying on the screen and one to be fed to the muxer and saved to file. Another stream is coming from the microphone and also fed to the muxer.

N800 hits the street

In the picture: Bang Alip having breakfast and listening to internet radio with N800.

Btw, he was a few days old when having the 'albino' 770 back in 2005. :-D

The latest internet tablet from Nokia, N800 (yes, it has N prefix as it is an N-series gadget now), is finally out. As always, there is an opportunity for open source developers to have it in reduced price. Eligible developers can have it only in 99€. See maemo.org for details.
